During a recent technical assessment, I reviewed the thermal performance of an 800g cooling plate under controlled conditions.
Rather than focusing on product specifications or marketing claims, the assessment was based on recorded temperature measurements, conditioning procedures and monitored thermal behaviour.
The objective was not to approve or reject a specific product, but to explore a broader question:
How can we determine whether a cooling medium is truly "Fit for Intended Use" for frozen food logistics?
As food safety professionals, we frequently specify temperature requirements, but the suitability of the cooling media itself is often assumed rather than evaluated.
The assessment compares the observed temperature profile with commonly referenced frozen-product requirements of -18°C (storage) and -15°C (distribution).
For transparency, a detailed test protocol and methodology appendix were also prepared.
I would be interested to hear how others approach the validation or risk assessment of cooling media used within temperature-controlled distribution systems.
